Loretta Welk-Jung wrote the book, CRYSTALENE, THE RAINBOW SNOW GIRL as a legacy to her, then, three grandsons. Heritage, family, and traditions were an intricate part of her life and she wanted to preserve them for future generations.
Loretta is an educator, having taught primary age children for 35 years. A storyteller, who gives readings at local libraries, literary groups and schools. She is, also, a workshop presenter for educational organizations, nursing homes and schools, where she does author workshops. Currently, she is serving as a substitute teacher (K-6) in the Jamestown, ND School system and surrounding communities.
Loretta served as the North Dakota Teacher of the Year during her teaching career. She also was a publisher of teaching ideas through Instructor magazine and wrote numerous articles for educational magazines.
Bringing her great joy, is the role of being a grandmother. She and her husband, have two grown-up children and they have given her the grandchildren she writes about.
Loretta had three grandsons and wanted a granddaughter. Out of that want, came the book Crystalene, the Rainbow Snow Girl. She used the theme of teamwork to develop character attributes for living a joyful life. As the three grandsons created Crystalene, they dressed her in memories that Loretta had from her childhood in her German/Russian home…buttons, ice cream cones, ribbons and shawls. The shawl had the colors of the rainbow on it. The story unfolds as Crystalene twirls about and one color at a time is reflected on her crystallized snow body. Each color gives the reader a symbolic character goal towards joyful living.
Enter, three more grandchildren and one is a granddaughter! Time for a sequel! Loretta wrote, CRYSTALENE, THE RAINBOW SNOW GIRL, RETURNS. Now the oldest grandchildren rebuild Crystalene for their three younger cousins. Crystalene uses her pink mittens to bring "magical joy" of the rainbow colors. As the six cousins play at Crystal Spring Pond, they make snow cones. Crystalene uses her magical pink mittens to reinforce the symbolic character attributes through examples that the children display.
Loretta's dream is to create a new "American legend" of peace through the rainbow with Crystalene, The Rainbow Snow Girl. Join the dream.
